During the summer of 2014, both Nevada and Arizona Departments of Transportation had completed their 2-year Interstate 11 (I-11) West Corridor Study. The recent transportation authorization bill, Moving ahead of Progress in the 21st Century Map- or (MAP-21) recognized the importance of the Corridor between Phoenix and Las Vegas and designated it as the future I-11. The study was detailed. It included planning options for linking Las Vegas and Phoenix. Even extending the corridor south to Mexico and north to Canada.
There are many obstacles to overcome still. There are environmental studies to be completed. Much opposition from residents remains for the Tucson sector west of the Tucson Mountains.
